The news comes from Kevin Turner, Microsoft COO, who told Nikkei, a Japanese news outlet, that Windows 10 would release “early next fall”. This is a more specific date from previous Turner’s statement saying that the release would be “late summer and early fall”. This new time frame push further the original plan from Microsoft to ship Windows 10 in April 2015. This date would have aligned with the launch of Windows 8.1, which was not a major release, just a massive update to overcome the mistakes made in the original design. However, Windows 10 is much more than just an update that changes the course of everything. Windows 10 is the operating system that Microsoft will use to further distance itself from Windows 8 and make the case for Windows 7 users to make the upgrade. In addition, this major release will focus on offering a single core of Windows throughout all devices: PC, tablet, phone, Xbox, and connected devices. Even though, the company has been using the Windows core across its platforms for quite some time. Now Windows will just simply be improving what is already in place. Although, Microsoft has yet to speak officially about the plan, “early fall 2015” (probably September 2015) is likely to be the official release date for Windows 10. But there is one little problem, if this is actually the plan, Microsoft and PC makers will miss the back to school buying season, which is a big money problem.
