It seems that everyone is following Microsoft’s design these days, as the VAIO Z Canvas, just like the iPad Pro, Lenovo Miix 700, Dell XPS 12, and even the new Google Pixel C tablet look very similar to the Surface tablet line. The Z Canvas shares various characteristics of the Surface Pro 3: it’s a high-end 2-in-1 device with a kickstand, detachable keyboard, and stylus. At a closer look the main difference of the Z Canvas and Surface Pro 3 is the keyboard, as it doesn’t really attach to the device, unless you’re using the keyboard as a cover. The company is aiming the new VAIO to professionals who work with visuals on their computers, such as video and image editing. The company says that the Windows 10 device covers 95 percent of colors identified in Adobe’s RGB spectrum, when traditional computers can only identify only 70 or 75 percent. It’s the most expensive tablet, but it’s as powerful as its price. At $2,199, this device features a 12.3-inch 2560 x 1704-pixel touch IPS display, Intel’s Core i7-4770HQ Haswell processor, the option for 8GB or 16GB of RAM, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage, SD card reader, and HDMI port. The Z Canvas also includes support for stylus and detachable wireless keyboard. Similar to the Surface Pro 3 the Z Canvas sports a thick bezel surrounding the display with a 3:2 aspect ratio. In addition, the kickstand can hold up the tablet to virtually any angle, just like the Microsoft’s tablet, which makes the new VAIO a great computing device for someone who needs to write with a stylus.
The VAIO Z Canvas seems that a great alternative for those who work with visuals, need mobility, and the Surface Pro 3 is not enough. However, the new device falls short on some significant aspects, while the processor is very powerful, it’s an older generation of Intel CPU, interesting enough it’s not an Skylake CPU. It also sports two USB 3.0 ports, but it doesn’t include any USB Type-C port, which is something we’re starting to see more in new devices.
