The new Pro X is a 12-inch device sporting a gorgeous 13-inch display, and this is possible because the bezels have been slimed down on either side. Also, there are two USB Type-C ports version 3.1 with support to drive two 4K 60Hz external monitors, and there isn’t 3.5mm headphone jack, so you’ll need a USB-C or Bluetooth headphones. Inside, you’ll find a custom Qualcomm 3Ghz ARM processor, which Microsoft refers it to the “SQ1” processor. Technically, you’re getting a smartphone processor inside of a tablet that gives you the benefits of a phone on a computer. Yes, the device can run your classic desktop applications (x86) using a virtualization technology seamless to the end user. However, Microsoft Store apps designed for the Qualcomm processor will work best, and some apps, especially those designed for the x64 (64-bit), won’t work on the device. Using the new processor, you can expect up to 13 hours of battery life (but it’s about 7 hours in real life usage), LTE connectivity, and performance is like using a regular laptop. In addition, you have the choice of 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and options of up to 512GB of internal storage. (You can learn more about the tech specs and other details here.) Just like the Surface Laptop 3, the Surface Pro X includes a removable Solid-State Drive (SSD), which you can replace for security reasons or upgrade purposes with a Surface certified hard drive. Also, there’s a new Type Cover that now includes a compartment near the top edge to magnetically store the new “Slim Pen,” which now comes with a rechargeable battery that charges automatically.
