Windows 10 packs a number of new features over Windows 8.1, including Tablet mode, which allows users with 2-in-1 devices to use a small Start menu when using a keyboard and mouse and a full screen Start menu experience when using a touch-enabled device. However, such functionally is highly unlikely that will be part of Windows 8.1 RT Update 3. Instead the software maker will be rolling out a version of the Start menu that we have seen on early builds of Windows 10 Insider Preview....

According to Microsoft, version 1.7 brings support for JSON fragment extensions, improvements for windows, read-only panes, automatic focus on mouse hover, and various improvements for the settings interface, which is still in preview. According to the company, the experience designed to be the primary experience to use Command Prompt, PowerShell, and Linux distros is now switching the version syntax to match the Windows 10 releases. The company made the announcement on Twitter (via The Verge) alongside an image that reveals a white design and confirms the lack of a disc drive. Microsoft and 343 Industries added that then next franchise of Halo will run on dedicated servers and they promise glorious 60 frames-per-second. “Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4”, Bonnie Ross, general manager of 343 adds. “That applies to content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine.” For those waiting on the live-action Halo TV series, 343 Industries also confirmed that is already working with Steven Spielberg to bring the show to live in time for the video game release....

We’ve seen a lot of assets for this feature in previous builds, but up until now there was no way for users to enable Cortana in Windows 10. But it seems that in the pre-consumer oriented version of the operating system, the company is letting selected groups to test the feature. The screenshot looks questionable, but it’s indeed a real image of Cortana in the taskbar next to the Task View button, in Windows 10....

The new color scheme option allows users to switch from the traditional white color on the screen to a completely dark color with white text, which makes easier on the eyes and save battery, specially on OLED screens. However, Google seems to be staging the rollout as only a number of users (see here too) are seeing the new option, which means that updating the apps to the latest version doesn’t ensure that the dark mode will be available....
