The rumor first surfaced at the Digitimes, but today a new report from Windows Central confirms from reliable sources that Microsoft is in fact developing a Surface AiO device for the living room. Microsoft hasn’t publicly comment on the new device carrying the Surface brand, but it’s said that the production of the device will heavily depend on availability of Intel’s new 14-nanometer Kaby Lake processor.
Surface AiO PC could launch in early 2017
The company is also planning to unveil hardware refresh for its Surface line, including the new Surface phone, alongside the release of Windows 10 “Redstone 2”, in spring of 2017. Introducing the new Surface AiO during that period seems only logical. Currently, there are not much information on how the new device will look like or technical specifications. However, the company will be positioning the Surface AiO as a modern piece of machinery with an elegant style to pop in the living room with top-shell hardware. At this point in time, Apple with its iMac and Lenovo with its Yoga Home 900 are the only ones selling the most all-in-one desktop computers, as such there is a good chance for Microsoft to succeed. While it would be amazing to buy 30-inch Surface AiO PC, we need to keep in mind that it’s still a work in progress that may or may not make it to the market.
