According to the announcement, the company is in the testing face of a prototype contact lens that includes a miniature wireless controller and a tiny glucose sensor, hardware which is embedded within two layers of lens material. The way this wearable tech works, at the end, is pretty simple, you put on the Google smart contact lenses and then device can test tears, one reading per second, then tiny LED lights can report the user the current glucose levels. Google informs that is talking with the FDA for approval to bring this product into the market, but it is unclear if we ever are going to see device as a reality. Furthermore, the company also hopes partners will continue to work in the smart contact lens idea and develop new sort of apps that could potentially make readings available to the end-user and their doctor.
